According to the US FDA, getting 5% Daily Value or less of a given nutrient from one serving is low, and getting 20% Daily Value or more of a given nutrient from one serving is high.

Therefore, for nutrients you want to limit (fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium), green values indicate 5% DV or less and red values indicate 20% DV or more

Also, for nutrients that you want to consume in greater amounts (fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium, and Iron), green values indicate 20% DV or more and red values indicate 5% DV or less.

Also, according to the US FDA, one serving of a food is considered too low in calories if it has less than 40 calories, and considered too high in calories if it has more than 400 calories.

Therefore, green calorie values indicate items whose servings contain between 40 and 400 calories per serving; items falling outside this range are colored red.
